Dear St. Thomas Aquinas Community,
I hope this message finds you well as we enter another week filled with exciting events and opportunities for our students and families.
Next Sunday, we have a very special occasion to celebrate—the 50-year anniversary of our Parish! We invite all members of our community to join us for a joyful Mass at 10am, where we will honour this significant milestone. Following the Mass, we will gather in the school hall for a delightful BBQ. This is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community, reflect on our shared journey, and enjoy good food and fellowship. We encourage everyone to attend and partake in the celebrations!
Last week, we enjoyed a fantastic Mission Fete, where we raised both awareness and funds for our Mongolian brothers and sisters in need. It was heart-warming to see our community come together for such a worthy cause. A heartfelt thank you to all families who contributed prizes and supported the event. A special shout-out goes to our Religious Education Coordinator, Meaghan Younger, for her hard work and dedication in organising and running this enjoyable afternoon. Your efforts have made a meaningful impact, and we are grateful for your commitment.
Thank you for your continued support and participation in our school community. Let us look forward to a week filled with learning, celebration, and togetherness.
God bless,
Tim Cleary

Religious Curriculum at St Thomas Aquinas
In Year Two students have been learning about how the actions of individuals and societies reflect the beliefs and values of their role models. They have looked at Jesus’ teachings and his healings and compared them to how people in our own community look after each other. Take some time to notice this week, who are good role models in your own life? How do you model Jesus’ actions and teachings?
Religious Life of St Thomas Aquinas
Mission Month
A huge thank you to everyone for your generous support of our Mission Fete last Friday. We have raised in excess of $1200 for Catholic Mission and had so much fun too! A huge thank you to everyone for the support to make this day such a success.
All Saints Day
Our whole school attended Mass last Friday to celebrate All Saints Day. This special day in the Church liturgical calendar celebrates those saints known to us for their close connection with Jesus and the way they lived their lives to inspire us. Our own St Thomas Aquinas inspires us to come to know Jesus through learning and prayer.
Christmas Appeal
This year we are hoping to contribute much needed food items to support those in our community who may find the financial aspect of Christmas challenging. We are working with St Vincent de Paul to collect items for Christmas Hampers. Below you will see a list of suggested items to be brought in with different grade levels being responsible for different items. All donations will be presented to St Vincent de Paul at our final whole school Mass on Thursday 5th December. Please send these non-perishable food/drinks into your child’s class where they will be kept until this Mass. Thank you in advance for the generosity this school community is known for.

Dignity Hamper
As part of our ongoing support of St Vincent de Paul and those in need in our own community we have established a new dignity hamper. Families are invited to donate to the hampers items to assist the homeless and those in need with hygiene items such as shampoo and conditioner, body wash or soap, deodorant, tampons and pads, incontinence aids and moisturizer. All donations can be place in the new cubes outside the Coordinators’ Office. These will be passed on to St Vincent de Paul as the cubes become full. Thank you in anticipation of your generous donations.
Parish Life
Our 50th Anniversary is this year and there will be a special Mass and BBQ to celebrate on Sunday 10th November. All families are invited to join in this day of celebrations and continue to build our well established parish-school bond. Special guests include the Archbishop and past priests. Please be sure to RSVP to the parish office to assist with catering the BBQ. Jubilee Mass registration - St. Thomas Aquinas Parish

Class Allocations for 2025
Any requests received after Friday 8 November 2024 will not be considered
During this term, we will be finalising our staffing arrangements for 2025. Below is a copy of the ‘Class Allocation Policy’ which aims to ensure there is a fair and just process in allocating students to classes for the upcoming school year.
We believe teachers are in the best position to decide a child’s placement because they know all the children in their classes and have a view of the ‘big picture’.
However, parents are invited to inform Mr Cleary of anything that you feel needs to be considered, for your own child’s well-being or development.
When forming the class lists the following factors are taken into consideration:
- Gender
- Diverse Learners
- Work habits
- Cognitive ability
- Friendships
- Behaviour
- Health considerations
- Religion (to assist in achieving balance between classes, especially in Sacramental years) and
- Common names
Ideally, we aim for an equal spread of both positive and challenging characteristics. Where practical, parental requests based on educational concerns may be considered. At St Thomas Aquinas, we follow these principles and guidelines when considering placement of students each year:
- Every care will be taken to ensure that each child is placed in the best situation to enhance learning and social development
- Parents who wish to raise concerns regarding the placement of their children in particular classes for the following year, should put the concern in writing and email it to our Principal (tim.cleary@cg.catholic.edu.au) by Friday of Week 4 (Term 4 - Friday 8 November). Parents cannot assume that requests from previous years will be taken into account. A new request will need to be made every year
- Parent concerns will be considered during the process. It must be clearly understood, however, that no definite guarantees can be given regarding parental concerns
- Where appropriate, advice will be sought from the Classroom Support Assistant, School Counsellor, Chaplain and current Class Teacher during this process
- Considering all the factors listed above, the current Class Teachers compile class lists from mid-term, Term 4. These are then handed to Mrs Taylor to confirm
- Children will be informed of their class placement for the following school year in December (usually the last week of school) and the opportunity will be provided for them to spend some time with their new class teacher. New students to the school for the following year are invited to attend
- Throughout this process, after appropriate consultation, the Principal reserves the right to make final professional decisions regarding the placement of children
Story Dogs @ National Library of Australia!
Story Dogs will be at the National Library on Saturday 9 November 2024 for the launch of Dog Beach, a new children’s book. There will be reading circles with a Story Dog for primary school age children. Bookings are essential and can be made on the National Library website. Come and join us for some fun reading and craft.
Students are introduced to new Ngunnawal vocabulary weekly. To match our Ngunnawal word, Mrs Wang is also introducing the matching Chinese word to increase our culture learning. Special thanks to Miss Evans & Mrs Wang.
Kindergarten Health Checks were carried out at school last Term. If your child missed their check up, catch-up appointments are available at City Health Centre, 1 Moore Street Canberra City on the second floor.

4 Green were asked to persuade the rest of the school why they are the best class and they came up with some fabulous responses:
It is vital that you understand that 4 Green is the best class ever! With our supportive teachers we can achieve anything. Here are some of the things that make us unique.
We are proud of our school. We’re all smart in our own ways and we are supportive of each other no matter what. We are all so athletic we can represent our school at sport gala days. Some of us are still learning our times tables and to write well but we all know we are smart in our own ways. You get a problem wrong? No problem. We will be supportive of you and I love that about our class.
In conclusion, we could list so many reasons that we are good but we couldn’t fit it all in one paragraph but we hope you are convinced that we’re the best!
by Nella & Jack
4G is the best class in the school because we are caring and attentive plus we have two of the best teachers ry which means double the fun and learning. We are also supportive of each other. We are brave and good at learning. We help people and we never give up. We follow our school motto, ‘To Care’. We try our best, represent our school with pride and are athletic. First we learn, second we have fun. We definitely clean our room and are the smartest classroom! That’s why we are the GOAT classroom EVER!
By Samin & Michael

We always try our best with our work and are very supportive and good sports. We have the two best teachers who are very wonderful. WE have the best classroom because we clean every day and make sure everything is clean and tidy. That is how 4G is the best!

4 Green is a great class and this is true because we are caring and attentive and we help each. We also have the best teachers at St Thomas. Our two great teachers are Miss Kelly and Ms Younger. They are a vital part of our learning and community. We listen to our teachers with care and kindness. We also have a ‘mostly’ clean classroom (we will not mention some parts of our classroom ?). We help and care for ourselves and each other. Not to mention how well we follow the motto, ‘To Care.’
