Dear Parents and Guardians,
We have a jam-packed week this week and our lovely Kindergarten students started us off with celebrating their 100 days of Kinder on Monday. Congratulations to families, our wonderful Kinder teachers, Kelly Scanlan & Ella Barry and our clever students on making this milestone. We look forward to another hard working 100 days of Kinder as we head towards the end of their first formal year of schooling.
The annual St Vincent de Paul (SVdP) Winter Woolies day will be held on Thursday, 1 August 2024. The SVdP provide much needed support especially to those families within our West Belconnen region. SVdP not only assist the homeless, but there is also much more that SVdP offer such as financial planning assistance and immediate short term help, food hampers, as well as the wonderful work they do from their shop fronts. Our annual Winter Woolies day is where the children can dress in free uniform and we ask for all children to please bring in a donation of winter items such as socks, beanies, gloves, jumpers, jackets, blankets and sleeping bags. Jackets, blankets and sleeping bags can be second hand if clean and in good condition. Items do not need to be only for children, Vinnies are always looking for adult sized items for men and women. We will be visited by the night patrol van at School on Thursday. Students will have the opportunity to chat with SVdP volunteers and to view the night patrol van and learn about the valuable work which happens from this community-based support.
Olympics fever has hit us! We will celebrate Green and Gold Day in recognition of our Aussie athletes who are competing at the Olympics and Paralympics in Paris. Students are invited to wear Green and Gold to celebrate this amazing sporting milestone.
From August 5th, we are inviting parents to provide feedback on their experience of our school using an online survey. Over the coming weeks, we will be surveying staff, parents and students. These surveys are an important part of our whole school evaluation and planning process.
We would like to invite you to complete the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Partners in Learning survey. As we value the role of parents and carers within our school community we would greatly appreciate your feedback. The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing at St Thomas Aquinas.
The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. A link to complete the 2024 survey will be in next weeks newsletter.
Lastly, Monica Culas commenced her maternity leave this week and we have welcomed Georgia Nielsen as the Classroom teacher for 2 Blue. We also welcome Sam Gergely who has joined our team and will be teaching in various roles across the school.
Warmly,
Tim ClearyWEEK | DATE | EVENT |

Parish Life
First Communion
Thank you to the families with children in Year 4 preparing for their First Communion this year, who attended our first Formation Session last Thursday evening. These families have also attended a commitment Mass where parents presented their children to the Parish community at one of our Masses over the weekend.
A reminder that our second Formation Session is this Thursday, 1st August at 6pm in the church. As discussed at our session last Thursday evening it has been decided that Masses for the celebration of First Holy Communion will be on the one weekend of 7th and 8th September.
Religious Curriculum at St Thomas Aquinas
Year 4 are busy learning about the Sacraments of Healing in the Catholic Church and how these make a difference for believers. Some of our Year 4 students received the Sacrament of Reconciliation earlier this year. All of our Year 4s attended a Healing Mass last term where the sacrament of anointing of the sick occurred. It is early days but we are already making links with these healing sacraments and our journey of reconciliation with our Indigenous brothers and sisters.
Religious Life of St Thomas Aquinas
Grandparents Day
Thank you to 1 Blue and Miss Ford for a beautiful prayer liturgy celebrating our wonderful Grandparents. It was a lovely celebration and time to honour our Grandparents and Grand friends which cullminated with a picinic lunch on the oval.
Winter Woolies
A reminder that this Thursday we are holding our Winter Woolies Day. Children may come dressed in free clothes. Children may wear pyjamas, oodies, tracksuits or free choice of suitable winter clothing. Donations of winter clothing such as jackets, jumpers, tracksuits, beanies, gloves, scarves, mittens and socks are all appropriate items to donate. In addition, sleeping bags and blankets are able to be donated, these can be second hand in clean and good condition.

As school re-commences for term 3, we are reminding parents and carers to please drive safely and legally, around St Thomas Aquinas Primary School.
Unfortunately, an increase in unsafe driving has been observed around our school in terms 1 and 2. This includes speeding on Lhotsky Street, which presents a risk for students, pedestrians and other vehicles.
We all have an important role to play in supporting pedestrian and road safety. Access Canberra has notified us that mobile speed vans will be in operation across Charnwood to help support the community’s safety. This team plays a critical role in supporting our students get to and from school safely and we thank them for
their ongoing support.
We would also like to remind parents and carers to park safely at and around the school. Unsafe and illegal parking can reduce visibility of our students and motorists to see each other, creating a significant hazard when students cross the road. This includes not parking across pedestrian crossings, in no stopping zones, on
corners, verges or double parking. Let’s work together to keep our kids safe.
Please join us at our assembly on Friday at 2pm to celebrate our Class Award & White token recipients
