Dear Families,
Athletics Carnival
We were blessed with a beautiful day for our Athletics Carnival yesterday. The rotations model seemed to work very well keeping students active and occupied, and I am sure they all slept very well last night. A big thank you has to go to Miss Sharne Vickers and to Mr Josh Mackenzie for their organisation. We would not have been able to run the carnival without our magnificent parent helpers who gave their time yesterday, so thank you so very much. And to our staff, who did a fantastic job of keeping the students moving and getting them through all of their events. I would also like to thank all of you for providing the sausages through your contribution to the School Community Council fundraising, the students really enjoyed the special treat!
Assemblies
Thank you once again for your understanding regarding the one audience member per family for our assemblies. While we have been lucky in Canberra, with limited COVID cases and none in the community for a very long time, we still have to comply with government requirements around physical distancing. We are lucky to have a relatively small school and a comparatively large hall, so we do have enough space for some parents and carers to attend. Unfortunately, until this pandemic is declared to be over, we have to comply with the current rules without exception. Thank you again for your understanding.
Enrolment
Our Catholic Schools Enrolment Period has begun and continues through to Friday, 28 May 2022. If you know of anyone outside of our school community who has a child at preschool, please notify them of the opportunity to enrol at St Thomas Aquinas during this enrolment period. Word of mouth is the best advertising we can have. Enrolments can be made online by going to the link or if you’d prefer an information pack is ready for collection from our Front Office.
Open days for both the school and the preschool will be held on Tuesday, 11 May between 4:00pm-5:30pm and Thursday, 20 May between 4:00pm-5:30pm. We are also happy for individual families to make an appointment for a tour and a chat with Maribel or me during the day.
Please spread the word.
Book Fair
The Book Fair is on this week. Children will be able to purchase books during lunch and recess on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and parents and carers will be able to come through and have a look with their children between 3-4pm. Please be mindful that we can only have a limited number of people in the library at any one time and make sure you check-in using the CBR app.
Mother's Day
I would like to wish all of our mums, grandmas and female carers in our community a very Happy Mother's Day for Sunday. I hope your children treat you to a wonderful day.
We are very much looking forward to being able to have our Muffins with Mums this Friday. It will be wonderful to see you in the courtyard from 8am. Thank you to the School Community Council for organising this event.
OSHClub
Please see the message from Nicole regarding OSHClub. As you may know, Jessica has started her maternity leave. We did have a director identify, however she will be unable to start with us. Caitlin has agreed to step up into the Director’s position until Jessica returns. I am sure many of the families who have children in OSHClub already know Caitlin and be pleased with this decision.
Again, I wish all of the mums, grandmas and women who are part of our students’ lives a very Happy Mothers’ Day.
God Bless

Schoolzine is our preferred form of communication. Teachers may also use other forms of communication for their own class. If you are not receiving regular communication, please check with the Front Office and your child's teacher to ensure that we have the correct contact details.
We aim to communicate through our Newsletter which is sent out via Schoolzine weekly. The newsletters can also be found on our website under Communication / Newsletter here.
We are also aiming to have all event/class notes included in the weekly Newsletter to reduce our carbon footprint. These notes can also be found on our website under Communication/Event Information here. If you are unable to print these notes, spare copies are held in the Front Office.
Schoolzine
When receiving information from Schoolzine it will be received in three different forms.
- You will receive an email which comes from Schoolzine, not Outlook. If you are expecting correspondence from the school and have not received it in your inbox, please check your Junk Mail, Trash, Bin, Promotion Folder or Other Folder first and then contact the school.
- You can receive it via SZapp on your mobile phone. We would appreciate all families installing this App on your mobile phone as it is an easy way to disseminate information. SZapp installation instructions are below. We will be forwarding the password via email shortly. As the password changes regularly, please email office.staquinas@cg.catholic.edu.au to obtain the current password if it has changed.
You can also send your child's school absences through this App.
- Non-confidential information can also be found on the front page of our website here, under the blue box/tile labelled "Latest News".
The Seasons for Growth program will be offered to students again this year, commencing later this term. The program is designed to support students who are dealing with some aspect of change, separation, loss or grief through small group discussions and activities with a Seasons for Growth Companion. If you would like your child to participate in this years program please see the attached nomination form. For more information please contact Mrs Skye McPadden via email on skye.mcpadden@cg.catholic.edu.au.

Our Scholastic Book Fair is coming up in Week 3 from Tuesday 4th May – Thursday 6th May!
Our Scholastic Book Fair is coming up next week from Tuesday 4th May – Thursday 6th May!
Our Book Fair will be open to students during lunch times, and families will be able to come in after school until 4 pm to have a look, and purchase books.
Students may have the opportunity to browse with their class teacher and may come home with a wish list. Students will also receive a brief catalogue later this week where you are able to purchase books in advance, similar to the book club process.
If families are choosing to visit the Book Fair in person after school, adults will need to check in via the CheckIn Canberra app, and may need to wait a few minutes before coming in to the Library.
School Banking - Now Wednesdays
School Banking will now be conducted at school each Wednesday rather than Friday due to the working commitments of our wonderful volunteer banker. This will take effect from Week 2, Term 2.
Please have your Dollarmite books to the Front Office by Tuesday each week.

Dear St Thomas Aquinas OSHClub families,
As you may or may not be aware, Ally our new coordinator at OSHClub has been moved to another of our OSHClub services to support the team there whilst their current program coordinator is away on personal leave for term 2.
We understand the importance of consistency for the children in our care. It is for this reason that Caitlen Barlett will be stepping into the Program Coordinator role in a fulltime capacity.
Caitlen has been with OSHClub and worked alongside Jessica for the last 12 months and is familiar for the children, families, and school of St Thomas Aquinas OSHClub.
Caitlen is currently studying her Bachelor of Education and is very excited to be stepping in the program coordinator role. We know Caitlen will ensure the children are supporting during this period of change and continue to provide wonderful programming and engaging activities for the children.
Caitlen will be assisted and supported by our local management team. The regular team at OSHClub will remain unchanged, aided by our friendly casuals as needed.
Any questions please reach out to Caitlen or the team.
Take Care
Warm Regards
St Thomas Aquinas OSHClub
