Dear St Thomas Aquinas community,
I hope that everyone had a lovely Mother's Day celebration on Sunday. Thank you to Bec Stanworth who coordinated our Muffins with Mum breakfast on Friday. Thank you to the many other parents who also assisted. It was cold but great fun.
Congratulations and thank you to Year 5 for their assembly last week, presenting their learning to all. Also to 2 Green for their beautiful Mother's Day liturgy where their singing of 'Isn't She Lovely' brought tears to people's eyes.
School Tours & Enrolments 2026
Our Year 6 students are in the midst of hosting school tours for prospective families. They are being wonderful representatives and our guests have provided us with lovely feedback about them.
We have received a healthy number of enrolment applications for Kindergarten 2026 already and our ELC has also received a large number of applications. I would encourage anyone who has is yet to enrol a sibling for 2026 to complete their application as soon as possible.
I have commenced enrolment interviews and I am thoroughly enjoying meeting our little 4 year olds. It is one of my most favourite activities and is a joyful reminder of our purpose; to support families in helping their children learn & grow.
Community Council
Thank you to those community members who have nominated to become part of our Community Council. The SCC is such an important voice for the families in our community. I value working with the SCC enormously and I am looking forward to working together to serve our community. Our AGM is this evening.
Future Teachers
We currently have a lot of teaching students who are working in our classrooms. Your child may have mentioned a lot of adults being present in the classroom. We regularly host student teachers. We are an important training ground for the future of our profession and we love to share our practice and impact to inspire young people to pursue a teaching pathway.
An exciting future ahead
There have been two elections in the last 10 days that will have a positive impact on the future of Catholic education.
Firstly, the recent federal election, which has set the tone for continuing to build an inclusive and diverse Australian society where all are welcome and belong. Our school is a reflection of this same vision.
Secondly, the election of Pope Leo XIV, has again reinforced that unapologetic, Catholic desire to create an inclusive world where the marginalised are seen and supported. He will continue the legacy of Pope Francis in many areas and we will continue to move forward, perhaps still a little slowly, in evolving as a church that responds to and nourishes the people who seek to share in its journey to be the hands and feet of Christ to the world.

The Council has a decision making role in certain policy areas and an advisory role in others. The policies of the school are always set within the mission of Catholic education.
The Council currently consists of a diverse mix of parents, teachers and parish members. The Council Executive is comprised of:

- Elected Parent representatives (At least one and up to four parent members appointed in accordance with the Constitution)

A number of a valued members will step down from their current positions on the Council at the end of this year. Their time, dedication and commitment to the roles is truly appreciated and respected.
