Dear Families,
Can you believe it is already week 6 and we are over half way through Term 2. As we embrace the arrival of winter in Canberra, it is important for us to remember the significance of staying warm and comfortable during this time of year.
With the colder temperatures upon us, I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone about the importance of dressing appropriately. Encouraging your child to wear layers, including a warm coat, hat, gloves, and scarf, will help ensure they stay cozy and protected from the cold weather. Additionally, don't forget to label your child's belongings to avoid any misplaced items.
As we approach the winter season, it is also essential to maintain good health and well-being. Adequate rest, a balanced diet, and regular exercise are crucial in keeping our immune systems strong and resilient. Please continue to encourage healthy habits at home, such as drinking plenty of water, eating nutritious meals, and engaging in physical activities.
I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude for the kind wishes and support I have received from all of you as I embark on my new role as Principal of St Edmund's College in 2025. Rest assured, I am committed to continuing my responsibilities as Principal of St Thomas Aquinas Primary Catholic School until the end of this year. Your unwavering support and dedication to our school community have always been a source of inspiration for me, and I am truly grateful for the opportunity to serve in this capacity.
Our Year 6 students will be making the Sacrament of Confirmation this weekend. It is indeed a special and significant milestone in their spiritual journey. Keeping them in our community's thoughts and prayers is a beautiful way to support and uplift them during this time. Prayer can provide comfort, strength, and guidance as they prepare for this important sacrament. May they feel the love and support of your community as they take this important step in their faith.
In closing, I would like to extend my warmest wishes to all our families as we navigate the winter season together. Let us embrace the beauty and wonder that this time of year brings, and may we find comfort and joy in the warmth of our community.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
Yours in Faith,

At St Thomas Aquinas we are continually teaching our students about digital and online safety to help them become knowledgeable digital citizens. Each week we will be posting online safety tips to help parents and families build your knowledge and open discussion with your children at home.
Why do I need to be careful?
Once you share something online it is very difficult to take it back.
So it is important to stop and think first.
Are you about to share some information that you should keep private, or a photo or video that may hurt someone's feelings?
Keeping my personal information private
Personal information is as precious as the keys to your house.
Giving these keys to the wrong people, even by accident, can be like allowing a stranger into your house without you even knowing.
If someone has lots of personal information about you, they could pretend to be you, find out where you live, or even use your personal information to buy things.
How can I protect my personal information?
- Avoid using your full name online — choose a screen name that does not include your real first or last name or use a nickname instead.
- Don’t lie about your age — lots of social media apps have a minimum age rating of 13. This is because some of the content may not be safe for kids.
- Only friend or follow people you know — if you receive a friend request from someone you don’t know it is best to delete their request.
- Keep your email and phone number private — your email address might contain your name and you don’t want to get unwanted texts, calls or emails.
- Don’t fill in all the fields on forms — if you sign up for something online, like a competition or quiz, only fill out the fields that are marked with an asterisk (this symbol *).
Tips for sharing photos and videos
-
-
Ask before sharing — if you take a photo or video with someone else in it, ask if it’s OK to share.
If they say no, then respect their decision.
-
Think carefully before you share an image or video — once you share something online it is very difficult to take it back.
It could be shared or copied by someone else.
-
Don’t share anything you wouldn’t want people to see in 5 years — that video of you singing or dancing like crazy is cool now, but will it be cool in 5 years?
-
Check what you are sharing — check if a photo or video has anything in it that could show where you live or the school you go to. Does it show the front of your house or street? Are you in your school uniform?
-
Take it down — if you have shared a photo or video and the person asked you to take it down, do it!
-
Don’t share or forward something embarrassing — if someone sends you a photo or video that you know would be embarrassing for the person in it, don’t forward it on or share it with other kids.

Students are introduced to new Ngunnawal vocabulary weekly. Special thanks to Miss Evans for continuing our learning of our Ngunnawal Country.
Congratulations Sophia H who competed with the Jazzy Jumpers in the QLD State Champoinships last week. Sophia was very successful with taking out multiple Silver and a Gold medal. We wish Sophia all the best for the upcoming ACT/NSW State Champoinships.
