Dear Parents and Carers
Confirmation
Tomorrow night, several students celebrate the final sacrament of initiation when they are Confirmed. Last week our Year 6 students enjoyed an excellent Retreat Day and this Wednesday night they will receive the Sacrament from Fr Tony Percy in our Church. I would like to thank the many people who have worked hard to make this possible for the students: Michelle Mason, Ashleigh van Kemenade, Sharne Vickers, Anne Gowen, Sr Colleen, Denis Hally-Burton, Jake Wenger and Fr Tony Percy. It will be a joyful occasion and all parents are invited to attend at 7pm.
Swimming Lessons
Swimming lessons have begun this week for students in K – 2 and all appears to be well with the students thoroughly enjoying the lessons. The lessons also offer an opportunity for the children to engage in some extra physical activity and have some fun. My thanks to Lee Black and Susan Magyar for organising the lessons.
Fathers’ Day Stall
Recently, we celebrated our Fathers’ Day stall with an opportunity for all students to purchase a gift for their fathers or significant males. As always, it required good parent community support and I would like to thank Sharlene McDermott and Lara McCombie for her excellent work in coordinating the stall. We also celebrated a Fathers’ Day breakfast, again thanks to parent helpers. I would like to thank Amelia Swinbourn and Loryn Reynolds for their great work and generosity of spirit. I trust that all our fathers enjoyed a great Father’s Day weekend.
Student Achievement
Angus Pardew recently represented the school at the Interschool’s Canberra Cup and finished 14th out of 21 competitors in category 5 (Year 5) for the Alpine Slalom.
St Thomas Aquinas finished 6th out of the 9 school teams entered the event. Congratulations Angus on a very commendable effort – we are very proud of you.
Lions Club Donation
Last week I had the pleasure of meeting with Beverley von Stein, from the Lions Club, who donated books to the school library. We appreciate the yearly donations received from the Lions Club.
Long Service Leave
In Term 4, I plan to take some Long Service Leave for the duration of the term. I am looking forward to some extended leave and the opportunity for some travel with my family. During my leave, Carmen Myles will be the Acting Principal and Susan Magyar will be the Acting Assistant Principal. They will both do outstanding jobs and I have every faith in their leadership and capacity for sound judgement.
Have a wonderful week with your children.
Best wishes
Cameron Johns
Principal
