Dear Families,
Welcome to the cold weather!
Uniform
It’s been a very wet and chilly start to Week 2. A reminder that students should be in full winter uniform and we strongly encourage students to wear a jumper when they are heading outdoors. Please remember that leggings and non-school jumpers and trackpants should not be worn to school. We also ask that you clearly label your child’s uniform items and belongings, lost property is currently overflowing with un-named items! If items are clearly named they will eventually make their way back to your childs classroom.
New Staff
We welcome some new members of staff this week. Dakota the Story Dog started with us, reading stories with Year 2 students and spending some time in the Library. We are also excited welcome Mr Polkinghorne, or ‘Mr P’ as he will be know to the students. Mr P is our new Grounds person, who will be working with us 2 days a week. I’m very excited to be able to hand over my hammer and plunger to Mr P and we can see the difference his hard work is already making to our school. Welcome Mr P!
John Polkinghorne

Kindergarten Green - Mothers Day Celebration
Kinder Green will be running a prayer celebration on Friday of Week 3, 12th May 23 for Mothers Day. We are hoping to include photos of the mothers in our school.
If you would like to be included in this, please send a photo (in JPEG format) of you and your family to kelly.scanlan@cg.catholic.edu.au. All photos, in JPEG, received by 3:00 pm on Tuesday 9th May will be included. Late photos, or photos in a different format will not be included.
Families should have received Term overviews yesterday. These will also be available on the website under the Teaching & Learning tab.
All staff and students gathered together for a whole school special assembly on Wednesday 26th April 2023 to recognise ANZAC Day. Each Year level collectively designed and made a wreath which was placed in remembrance of our fallen soldiers.
Over the next several weeks students will be introduced to Ngunnawal vocabulary. This week students will be learning "Bural" meaning day. Thank you Miss Evans for continuing our learning of our Ngunnawal Country.
We are pleased to announce that eight Year 5 and 6 have been chosen to compete in the daVinci Decathlon, which will be held at Canberra Grammar School next Tuesday, 9th May.
The team (including 2 reserves), consisting of: Aryan, Anthony, Abigail, Ethan, Blake, Lily, Estelle, Bradley, Frederick and Natalia. The team have been getting together once a week to trial some of the previous papers. The collaboration, knowledge and creativity they have been using in these sessions will have them ready for the challenge of the day.
On the competition day they will be up against about 30 other schools collaborating as a team on papers focused on Maths, Science, English, Engineering, Art/Poetry, Ideation, Code Breaking, Cartography, Creative Producers and Legacy.
They should all be extremely proud of this achievement and we wish them all the best on the competition day.
Please keep returning library books each week. Students can return books any day, it does not have to be their library lesson day. It’s so important to keep our books circulating through our borrowers. We currently have 320 overdue books.
Lots of students have completed the Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge. We still have plenty of time to get more entries in to win book prizes for STA. Every student who hands in a completed Reading Challenge form receives a pick from the prize box.
Happy reading!
From Mrs Hind
Issue 3 came home last week.
All orders are online or via the Loop app: https://mybookclubs.scholastic.com.au/Parent.aspx
Orders are due 10th May, 2023.
Our school receives credits each time a student buys a book. This helps with building our beautiful library collection.
Any questions please feel free to email me.

Variety Heart Scholarships - Sport & Arts
Variety Heart Scholarships for 2023 are open 1 - 31 May!
The scholarships help school-age children reach their full potential in sport and the arts.
Variety Heart Scholarships are open to young people aged 6 - 18 years and offer up to $5,000 to help children who face financial or physical barriers fulfil their dreams. This could include assisting with tuition fees, personal development, coaching, training equipment, travel or accommodation.
No field of sport or the arts is too large or too small to be considered. All that is needed to apply is a young person who is proficient in their field and shows passion and commitment to achieve a long-term aspirational goal.
Our scholarships are highly competitive which is why we are spreading the word ahead of the round opening to give families time to thoroughly prepare. The guidelines to apply can be found here.
