STA Colour Run 2022
Friday 25th November
Week 7, Term 4
Dear Parents and Carers,
Term 4 will see STA yet again take part in our annual Colour Run fundraiser! This will be our 3rd year of running our Colour Run and obstacle course and it is a fantastic event each year and this year I’m sure will be no different! The date for this year’s Colour Run will be Friday 25th November in Week 7, Term 4. The Colour Run gives all families a great opportunity to support the school by raising money to improve school facilities. Relations, friends, neighbours or work colleagues are all great sources of donations!
Proceeds of our past Colour Runs, have been used for some major improvements to our school and all of these will be of direct benefit to your children. This year all donations raised from our Colour Run will be used for:
- The next stage of our shade structure on the courts – we need $15 000 for this job!
If we raise over $15 000, we will purchase:
- Decodable home readers
- Sports equipment for break times.
The Route
The route of our Obstacle Course and Colour Run will be around our school oval. We have again hired an obstacle course for the day and all children will be able to run the course and have coloured powder and water squirted on them by the teachers at set points along the course. Any students who do not wish to have powder on themselves or have asthma, will be able to run the course first.
We will be encouraging the children here at school with incentive prizes for raising money. These will include highest fundraisers in ELC & Kinder, Year 1 & Year 2, Year 3 & Year 4, Year 5 & Year 6. There will also be a prize for the student who raises the most money overall, the family who raises the most money and the class who raises the most money. So, there are lots of reasons to get collecting and support our wonderful school!
The more money we raise, the better for our school. We are not asking for children to wander around the streets unsupervised or to talk to strangers, but asking family members, relatives, friends, friendly neighbours, etc are all good ways to reach our goal of $15,000 plus!!
Donation Pledge Card
Donation pledge cards have gone home with your children this week. This card is used to record all donations. Spare cards are available from the Front Office. We would like the money to be returned before the Colour Run as this allows us to tally final amounts and to present prizes at school as close to the Colour Run date as possible.
Thank you for your support
Dear Parents and Carers
If your child/ren is leaving St Thomas Aquinas at the end of 2022 please advise the school in writing. This does not apply to students in Year 6 this year.
Attached here is the Student Transfer Notification form which needs to be returned to the school by 10 December 2022.
Thank you

SCC Update |
We are a Community inspired by St Thomas Aquinas to deepen our faith, to seek knowledge and to flourish. In partnership with families and the community, students are encouraged to be; compassionate, resilient, inclusive and engaged.
Parents and carers need to lead by example.
‘Family-school and community partnerships are an effective way to support and empower positive parent engagement and bring together family and community resources to enrich student learning and wellbeing.’
The past couple of years have really created challenges for parents and carers trying to volunteer and nurture relationships within the school community.
2023 is a fresh start and the School Community Council (SCC) is excited to invite and welcome new members.
There are no specific qualifications required to become a member of the SCC, you just need be the marvellous human you already are! Every person that puts their hand up for the committee brings their own set of amazing qualities and skills to form a team that works together for the benefit of our wonderful little school community.
The SCC exists to support the school in the following ways:
- Provide a meeting ground for parents and friends;
- Provide an educational forum for parents;
- Provide the opportunity for the Principal to report on the school’s activities;
- Organise social activities for the parent body;
- Conduct fundraising.
Meetings are held at 6pm on Tuesday of week 3 and 8 of each term at school and on average last for about one hour.
Remember volunteering:
- Isn’t just about doing things at the school in school time
- Doesn’t have to take up lots of time
- Will work best for you when you find something that feels right and fits with life (and so many options come about through the SCC)
- Is a great way to build relationships
- Enriches students’ education opportunities
- Build your confidence and skills
- Shows your child that you are interested in their education
Please consider joining the SCC next year. Interest for positions can be made by emailing sta.school.community.council@gmail.com
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the SCC.
Compass Parent Portal - Late Arrivals
Important Update
With the ease of Covid restrictions, we are very excited to be welcoming families back into the school. As stated in last week's newsletter, parents will now be required to walk their student into the front office if arriving late and sign them in via the Compass Kiosk.
Please note that it is a legal requirement that if a student arrives at school after the starting time of 8:50am that they are signed in by their adult. In the event that a student is not accompanied to the front office we will be required to contact families and request you to attend the office to sign the student in before they can attend class.
We appreciate your efforts in supporting a smooth morning transition for all children.

and talented students of Canberra to participate in
After its success in previous years, The Summer Camp program is back in 2023.
The Summer Camp has two components: an introductory section and an in-depth investigation.
The 2023 Topics are:
For Stream 1
Playground Mathematics
The Secret Language of Insects
The Science of Invisibility
A World in Multiple Dimensions
For Stream 2
The Psychology of Irrational Decisions
Is This a Dream? A Philosophical Investigation
The Science of Procrastination
Where Do Words Come From?
Based on the research suggesting that gifted students benefit from the availability of choice, the Summer Camp program allows the students to select from the two Streams available. In the first day of the program, each stream introduces the students to four different topics. The extended, uninterrupted engagement with a topic was also demonstrated to be of benefit to gifted students. Therefore, the second day of the program will give the students the opportunity to select one of the four topics introduced and explore it in depth. The Summer Camp program is developed and presented by BRAINways Education.
