Dear Families,
Next week we welcome six Officers from Catholic Education and a Principal who will form the Registration Panel. Every five years, non-government schools undergo a Registration process. This is usually an opportunity to affirm the work of everyone within the school and to provide recommendations as we move forward. As you can imagine, we all would like to present our school at it’s very best and ask that you support us in ensuring students are in full uniform or correct sport uniform. If your children have grown, remember that the second-hand uniform shop is available and open on Monday mornings and Wednesday afternoons every even week, alternatively, you can call the front office to organise a time to purchase items.
Tasmania
Last week, I flew to Tasmania to present our journey to Catholic Principals and Leaders. They were very interested to hear about our journey and the implementation of Daily Review in our school. They were also very interested to hear about the support and intervention programs we run throughout the school, but particularly in literacy. This year, we run 61 separate lessons of Reading Tutor, Macqlit, Minilit or Prelit across the school every week. All of our Assistants and Classroom Support Teachers have been trained in one or more of these programs and do a magnificent job in raising the reading levels of students across the school. Over the last two years, we have seen a significant jump in student’s literacy levels and this is beginning to be seen in our NAPLAN results. A number of principals expressed an interest in visiting the school to see how we managed this type of intervention and to take it back to their own school communities.
NAPLAN
We anticipate NAPLAN reports will arrive sometime this week, or early next week. This is a little later than previous years. Once these arrive at the school, they will be sent home to parents and carers via the students. We will send out an alert to families in Years 3 and 5 when this occurs so you can check your child’s bag.
Hats
A reminder that all students should have a hat at school. If students do not have a hat, they will be directed to ‘play in the shade’. This can be a challenge for many students who enjoy playing soccer or NRL on the school ovals. If your child requires a hat, they can be purchased for $15 from the from office.
Take care and God bless
Yours in Faith
Principal

Pupil Free Day - Friday 9 September
Note from Mr Ross Fox, Director CECG
Acknowledging the unprecedented situation we face, and following consultation, I have authorised two additional pupil free days in Term 3. The timing of these days for ACT schools will align with times set by the ACT Education Directorate – Friday in Week 3 and Friday in Week 8. NSW schools will set dates for these these pupil free days in consultation with nearby schools. I hope this additional time will assist teachers and staff in term 3.
In accordance with the abovementioned and in line wth all ACT Schools, we note that the two additional pupil free days for Term 3 are:
- Week 3, Friday 5th August 2022
- Week 8, Friday 9th September 2022
We, again, thank our community for supporting and working with us to enable our school to hopefully remain appropriately staffed and open and our amazing learning to continue.
A friendly reminder that school fees for Term 3 for 2022 are now due. Please contact the front office to arrange payment unless you already have payment arrangement in place
Thank you for your cooperation.
Book Week Parade - Wednesday 31st August
We have received notification from Life Unlimited Church at 45 Lhotsky Street Charnwood that many of our families are parking on the grassed area as detailed below which is causing damage to the grass. The Life Unlimited Church has been very accomodating in allowing staff and families to park in their car park which they are happy to continue to do so however we do ask that you please do not park on any of the grassed areas along Lhotsky Street.
We understand that parking is limited on the school grounds but there is ample parking available at the Charnwood Shops and within the Unlimited Life Church allocated parking.
We would be very grateful for your cooperation.

Nurturing your child through transition
As 2023 enrolment is underway, we are drawn to think about transitions for our students. Transitions can be hard for our students and for parents, as they navigate the anxiety and fear that can sometimes happen with change.
A fantastic resource to support families with this is the CSPA “Gearing up for Parent Engagement in Student Learning”.
This resource provides a parent module on Nurturing your child through transition – Primary and Nurturing your child through transition - Secondary providing some concrete and practical advice to be shared with your families and school community.

CANTEEN
The Canteen is open from Wednesdays to Fridays - for the first 10 minutes of each break. We sell a limited selection of healthy canteen approved chips and ice blocks.
SUBWAY
Parents and staff are able to place Subway Orders Online. Click on the link below to place an order and payment as well.
Cut-off time is 9:15 AM for same day delivery.
Call on 02 6259 9101 to place your order after this time
Subway Lunch Orders can also be made, via Subway Envelope, at school. Subway envelopes, including cash, need to be placed in the Lunch Order Subway box, located outside the Front Office, by 9:30am on the day before the lunch is required. For example, if you would like a lunch order on Wednesday, the lunch order needs to be manually submitted by Tuesday 9:30am.
Here is a sample of the Subway ordering envelope. Envelopes are available from the Front Office or the classroom.
