Religious Curriculum at St Thomas Aquinas

In Year One students are currently learning about the sacraments of Baptism and Eucharist. It is a chance to develop an understanding that a sacrament is a gift from God. Sacraments are defined for the students as a special way that God shows God’s love and helps believers grow in our faith. They are special moments or ceremonies that help people remember and feel close to God. Through sacraments, God gives important gifts that help people become better friends with God and with others. Students will explore the scripture stories of Jesus’ own baptism and his institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper. If you would like to view and discuss these with your children these are good interpretations of these events - Baptism & Last Supper videos. It is also a wonderful opportunity to look through old photos of your child’s baptism, your own baptism and your First Communion and see how this sacrament has some common symbols.

Religious Life of St Thomas Aquinas

Dignity Hamper
As part of our ongoing support of St Vincent de Paul and those in need in our own community we have established a new dignity hamper. Families are invited to donate to the hampers items to assist the homeless and those in need with hygiene items such as shampoo and conditioner, body wash or soap, deodorant, tampons and pads, incontinence aids and moisturizer. All donations can be place in the new cubes outside the Coordinators’ Office. These will be passed on to St Vincent de Paul as the cubes become full. Thank you in anticipation of your generous donations.

Mission Month
October is Mission Month for our Church. We reflect upon the generous work done around the world by our missionaries and find ways to support them practically. This year Catholic Mission are focusing on Mongolia and the work done through the Caring Center there. Congratulations to 3 Green for their thoughtful prayer celebration last Friday where we prayed for all missionary work in our world.

There are posters around the school with QR code details if you are wanting to donate directly to Catholic Mission for their Socktober fundraiser.

Mission Mini Fete
This Friday, 1st November, we are holding our Mission Fete to raise funds for Catholic Mission. Families have been invited to donate lolly bags, books, temporary tattoos and hairspray for classes to sell during our mini fete. Thank you for those who already have done so.

The ‘fete’ will take place during school time between 12-1pm. Older grades are also running a variety of entertainment activities for all to enjoy. Fete hands are available to purchase on Compass.

Parish Life
Our 50th Anniversary is this year and there will be a special Mass and BBQ to celebrate on Sunday 10th November. All families are invited to join in this day of celebrations and continue to build our well established parish-school bond. Special guests include the Archbishop and past priests. Please be sure to RSVP to the parish office to assist with catering the BBQ.
