From the Principal

Dear Families,

I would like to begin by congratulating our Year 6 leaders for the wonderful way they conducted themselves at the Leadership Mass on Friday. They are a great credit to you and the school and are already contributing well to our beautiful school culture.

Each year, Year 6 students complete a number of tasks to demonstrate they have the qualities and desire to be a school leader at St Thomas Aquinas. All students applied themselves to this task and I am pleased to say, all completed these tasks well before the Leadership Mass. All students received their leadership shirts on Friday, and it was wonderful to see them wearing them by lunch break! I thank Mrs Thomas, Mr Mackenzie and Mrs Younger for preparing the Leadership Mass and the students for this Mass.

A reminder that school photos are taking place this week. We saw the ELC children who attend the beginning of the week have their photos taken today. The end of the week classes will have their photos on Thursday. All Primary School photos, including primary aged siblings, will be having their photos on Wednesday. ELC sibling photos will be taken on the day of your ELC class photos. Please ensure all students are neatly dressed in summer uniform.

NAPLAN will be commencing in Week 7 this year with students from years 3 & 5 participating in the national testing. At St Thomas Aquinas, we also use this NAPLAN data to assess the effectiveness of programs across the school. Parents have the option to withdraw from NAPLAN should they wish. Information surrounding NAPLAN can be found in this week’s newsletter.

The Student Representative Council is made up of one elected member from each class from Year 2 to Year 6. This SRC will provide advice for student-led projects throughout the school. Class elections will be taking place shortly and we encourage students to think whether this role is something they would like to be considered for. I look forward to announcing the SRC Members in the school newsletter in the coming weeks.

With our Fete preparations in full swing, we are again calling for helpers. Come along to our Fete Meeting at 6pm tonight in the Library to see how you can help and support our School Community Council. The Fete is our biggest fundraiser with many opportunities to help. There is the opportunity to take on small tasks or to tackle a larger task, any assistance and/or contribution will be great appreciated.

God bless
