Message from the Assistant Principal
Dear Families,
Welcome to Week 7!
It is a very busy time, with lots of exciting events happening this week. It is easy to forget that we are in the season of Lent and already celebrate the 5th Sunday in Lent this coming weekend and Passion or ‘Palm’ Sunday the next weekend. We are reminded of the importance of prayer, almsgiving and fasting during this time of preparation for Easter.
Project Compassion
A big thank you to all of the students who are supporting our work with Project Compassion this year. Many classes have earnt multiple ‘chickens’ with their donations. Please continue to support this worthy cause during Lent. We are also looking for donations from families towards our Easter Raffles. Mrs McPadden will put the easter treats together to make some hampers which will be raffled off at the end of term. Tickets will be on sale soon, please watch for more details shortly.
Year 6 Camp
This week our Year 6 students are off at camp. The students have travelled to Fitzroy Falls this year along with Miss Vickers, Miss Evans, Mr Mackenzie, Miss Mudford and Mrs Taylor. The camp looks to be an exciting outdoor adventure experience for the children, building on team work skills and challenging themselves to try new things and possibly move outside their comfort zones. Please watch for updates on arrival time back at school on Wednesday afternoon via Szapp.
Cross Country
On Thursday this week, we will have our annual STA Cross Country Carnival.
I know that classes have been doing some training in preparation for this event and it will be exciting to be able to have parents, grandparents and friends be able to join us at school for this fun carnival. The carnival starts after second break with classes assembling on the basketball courts at 11:50am. Please refer to the timetable below, under Sports News, for approximate running times. Remember when coming onto school grounds you will need to check in with the Check in Canberra App, there will be posters up on the day with our QR code.
Bullying. No Way! – National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence 2021
This Friday 19th March, is National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence for 2021 which is Australia’s key bullying prevention initiative, connecting schools and communities to find workable solutions to bullying and violence.
The theme for this year is ‘Take Action Together’ which aims to elevate student voice, empowering young Australians to join the conversation about this important topic.
We will be building in aspects of this event with our activities for St Thomas Aquinas Day.
St Thomas Aquinas Day
We end our busy week with a celebration of our school and patron saint on Friday, 19 March 2021 with our St Thomas Aquinas Celebration Day!
Students are invited to come to school in uniform free clothing, remembering to wear closed in shoes and to bring a hat.
The day will begin with a Prayer Celebration for staff and students only, students will be able to take part in fun games and team building activities during the day, as well as the much anticipated jumping castle time!
It should be a wonderful way to finish off a super busy week of learning!
Have a wonderful week,
Carmen Myles
